The Team


J.D. Matonti is NEW-GEN’s Founder, Director and Creator. Mr. Matonti conceived the epic NEW-GEN Universe encompassing many parallel dimensions; NEW-GEN, The Underworld, Earth, Zaadar-3, Nu-Mangi among other worlds. Based on his drawings, Matonti created the vast array of superhero characters infused with NanoPowers, creatures and robots that inhabit the NEW-GEN Universe.

Mr. Matonti recently directed a Previsualization Sneak Peek for the upcoming 3D CGI Animated Film NEW-GEN: DEADALUS RISING. This Previs (developed by Persistence of Vision and David Dozoretz, STAR WARS, MISSION:IMPOSSIBLE, STAR TREK) combines revolutionary facial capture technology with Previs animation for the first time. Mr. Matonti will be collaborating with production designer Leslie Dilley (STAR WARS, RAIDERS OF THE LOST ARK INDEPENDENCE DAY, SUPERMAN) to create the look of the 3D CGI animated film. As director, Matonti has storyboarded the entire film as part of his visionary storytelling process.

Mr. Matonti has written and edited the six issue comic book series NEW-GEN, as well as the five issue series NEW-GEN: NEW DAWN, which is distributed by Marvel.

Matonti has over 20 years of experience in all phases of production: story development, production, editing, writing, directing, and producing. Mr. Matonti has directed Mark Hamill (STAR WARS) and Tony Oliver (MIGHTY MORPHIN’ POWER RANGERS) in the NEW-GEN teaser animatic. Previously Matonti directed music videos for top recording artists and directed and produced several live action feature films including the riveting teen thriller LETHAL JUSTICE, LOOSE WOMEN (starring Charlie Sheen, Keith David, Giancarlo Esposito, Robin Strasser and Stephen Lang), MY X-GIRLFRIEND’S WEDDING RECEPTION (starring Dom DeLuise and Deborah Gibson), BOBBY G. CAN’T SWIM (critically acclaimed film that launched the career of actor John-Luke Montias), and the documentary MONEY-DRIVEN MEDICINE (co-produced with Academy Award winner Alex Gibney).

Mr. Matonti received dual degrees from Syracuse University: a Bachelor of Science in Television, Radio, and Film from S.I. Newhouse School, the premiere communications school in the U.S., and a Bachelor of Science in Marketing from the Crouse-Hinds School of Management.



Chris Matonti is Founder and Producer of the NEW-GEN Franchise. As Chief Operating Officer, Chris is responsible for oversight of the company’s budget and strategic business development and spearheads the capital raise of A.P.N.G. Enterprises, Inc. Mr. Matonti has a multi-faceted background in the entertainment industry and draws from his past experience as producer, producer’s representative, and distribution executive. Chris’ 360-degree approach and implementation to content creation and distribution maximizes the NEW-GEN Franchise for a global marketplace.Mr. Matonti began his entertainment career as a music supervisor on the film LETHAL JUSTICE and joined his brother and producing partner.  Chris produced LOOSE WOMEN (Charlie Sheen, Tom Verica, Giancarlo Esposito) and was responsible for overseeing all aspects of filmmaking and production including raising the necessary financing for the film and contract negotiations.  He produced a 21 song soundtrack, which included such musicians as Mark Bryan from Hootie and the Blowfish, Luscious Jackson, and Corey Glover.  In addition, Mr. Matonti executive produced MY X-GIRLFRIEND’S WEDDING RECEPTION (Deborah Gibson, Dom DeLuise); BOBBY G. CAN’T SWIM, LIVING THE DREAM (Sean Young, Danny Trejo, Jeff Conaway), THE HIKING TRIP (Kortney Adams) and produced the critically acclaimed MONEY DRIVEN MEDICINE about America’s complicated and dysfunctional healthcare system with Oscar winner Alex Gibney.

As a producer’s representative, Mr. Matonti helped filmmakers realize distribution for such films as the crime drama, THIS THING OF OURS (Vincent Pastore, Frank Vincent, James Caan); the supernatural horror film, CULT (Taryn Manning, Rachel Miner), and INSIDE starring Nicholas D’Agosto (HEROES) and Leighton Meester (GOSSIP GIRL) which helped establish her rising career.

Chris Matonti received a BA from Bucknell University with degrees in Biology and Art History/Studio Art.



Julia Coppola is Co-Creator, Executive Producer and NEW-GEN Founder. Ms. Coppola has edited the NEW-GEN Comic Book Series I through VI, and the origin series NEW-GEN: New Dawn printed and distributed by Marvel. Julia serves as Editor on the ongoing NEW-GEN Comic Series, and oversees the companies PR initiatives. As a former educator, Ms. Coppola is collaborating with Marvel to establish a NEW-GEN In School Comic Book program to educate students across the United States.  Julia worked closely with Jeff Gomez and the Starlight Runner Team in the creation of the NEW-GEN Universe Story Bible.  Ms. Coppola will serve as executive producer on the upcoming 3D CGI Animated Film NEW-GEN: DEADALUS RISING.

Ms. Coppola served as Chairman and financing partner to a former independent distribution company Gabriel Film Group.  Ms. Coppola’s responsibilities included marketing and publicity oversight on such films as THE SIMIAN LINE (Harry Connick Jr., Lynn Redgrave, William Hurt, Jamey Sheridan) and the multiple-award winning Bobby G. Can’t Swim. As executive producer of BOBBY G. CAN’T SWIM, Ms. Coppola mounted the campaign for director John-Luke Montias that led to nominations at Hamptons International Film Festival, Torino International Festival of Young Cinema and won such festivals as Best New Director and New Directions Award at AFI Fest and the Grand Jury Award at Florida Film Festival. Ms. Coppola executive produced the documentary MONEY DRIVEN MEDICINE, which screened across the country, including a special screening for members of Congress at the U.S. Capitol.

Ms. Coppola has been recognized in Who’s Who Internationally as an individual of excellence in the field of entertainment and is a member of NY Women in Film and Television.  Ms. Coppola received a BA from Notre Dame of Maryland University in Sciences and Secondary Education.

Brad Heisman had a storied and highly successful career as a district/regional manager for market leaders such as Pathmark, Marshalls, Dollartree and Kmart. He has a proven track record of developing high powered, sales driven teams as well as possessing the core competencies of brand building and exceeding sales and profits above expectations.

Brad joins APNG in business development and will help transition the company as a market and brand leader in the entertainment industry.

Brad is a graduate of Temple University and received a BA in marketing/management.


John Winkler is an aspiring Director and Screenwriter with a strong background in Editing and Graphic Design. John joins the NEW-GEN team as an associate producer, and the assistant to director J.D. Matonti on the upcoming film NEW-GEN: DEADALUS RISING.

John Winkler has worked in various projects and capacities with A.P.N.G. Enterprises, such as Comic Con event coordination as well as working with director J.D. Matonti on the Storyboard Animatic, Mood Boards, and Camera Blocking, for the upcoming 3D CGI Animated Film. John is proficient in Final Cut Pro, Shot Designer, Compressor, After Effects, Photoshop, and Illustrator.

John has worked as an editor’s assistant for 4th Row Films, a documentary film and brand marketing company, including editing the trailer for, and assisting in post-production on the documentary film HEY BARTENDER, which premiered at SXSW, and was picked up by SHOWTIME and NETFLIX.

John Winkler graduated from Kean University with a B.A. in Film and Media.



David B. Hough, is a seasoned financial executive with more than 20-years experience. Mr Hough has originated, structured and underwritten more than $10B of financings for multiple international financial institutions. Throughout his career, Mr. Hough’s expertise has been in the structuring of transactions involving new issuers and emerging asset classes. Mr. Hough has advised and financed numerous mergers & acquisitions, recapitalizations, divestitures and spin-offs across multiple industry sectors. Mr. Hough has invested more than $1.5B of media & entertainment related transactions, including: Melrose Partners I and II, Dune Entertainment, Blowtorch Entertainment, Gun Hill Road I & II, DreamWorks, DreamWorks Animation, Marvel Entertainment, Village Roadshow and Crown Media.

In 2010, Mr. Hough founded Hough Consulting, a multi-disciplined advisor to issuers and investors throughout the alternative investments marketplace. Hough Consulting provides advisory services, business plan consulting and fundraising expertise to clients in industries including: specialty finance, media & entertainment, oil & gas, defense, manufacturing, internet & social media, business services and insurance.

Prior to the founding of Hough Consulting, Mr. Hough was responsible for the successful origination, structuring and portfolio management of over $250 million AUM on behalf of the various Funds managed by PBL Capital, a multi-strategy alternative investment hedge fund.

Before joining PBL Capital, Mr. Hough was with WestLB AG, responsible for all new-issuer and new-asset structured transactions. In addition to building and managing a diverse portfolio of more than $3B of capital commitments, Mr. Hough established and ran the bank’s life insurance finance business. During this time, Mr. Hough was a founding board member of the Institutional Longevity Markets Association, an international trade association established to promote institutional best practices in the longevity and mortality-related marketplace.

Mr. Hough also held positions with Swiss Re Capital Markets, CAK Universal Credit Corporation, The Bank of New York, and JP Morgan.

Mr. Hough graduated from Bucknell University with Bachelor of Arts degree in English Literature and Economics.


Theodore Nevins spent 24 years on Wall Street before privately venturing out on his own. Theo was in bond sales and trading at now fabled investment banks Merrill Lynch, Lehman Brothers, and Bear Stearns where he lived in Tokyo, Hong Kong, and New York. After founding Penryn Associates in 2004, he moved to Hong Kong and Beijing to work on real estate and Asian bond transactions. In addition to private equity investments, Theo is focused on global Conservation and helping children with incurable diseases.

Theodore is a graduate of Choate Rosemary Hall and Colgate University.



William Cox III is CEO and Founding Partner of Soaring Partners, LLLP. For more than twenty years, he made investments in venture capital and private equity, with a focus in media and technology. From 1989 to 2009, he was a Founding Partner of Harding Loevner, LLC, a family of mutual funds targeting emerging markets. Prior to founding Soaring Partners, LLLP, he worked in Dublin, Ireland as head of Business Development for Baxter Financial Services and Currency Dealing. From 2002 to 2004, he directed the Small Cap Equities – Young Enterprises Shares Fund for Princeton Capital Management. From 1979 to 1997, Mr. Cox held a variety of positions at Dow Jones & Co. Initially, his areas of expertise included advertising, marketing, and research for The Wall Street and Barron’s magazine. He then headed Business Development for the Dow Jones Newswires. As a member of the Steering Committee and as Managing Director, he founded the Dow Jones Indexes.

William received a BS in Business Administration at Boston University in 1978 and Certificates from the New York University School of Information Technologies and the Executive Program of the NYU Stern School of Direct Marketing.



Gary Shapiro is a master Creative and Marketing Consultant. His successful career in the film business has spanned more than four decades. He has spent that time in various executive marketing and distribution capacities at Columbia Pictures, MGM, Hemdale Pictures, Sony Pictures Entertainment and Beacon Pictures, initially specializing in the United States and Canada and later managing the marketing of major Hollywood studio films and independent films worldwide.


Dr. Bradley Edwards is an internationally recognized scientist in Nanotechnology and a global authority on space in the media and technical conferences and panels.  Among his achievements: selected as a top 20 space visionary for 2007, Arthur C. Clarke Innovator Award recipient for 2005, as well as named “Modern Leonardo da Vinci” by the Chicago Museum of Science and Industry. Brad’s expertise in Nanotechnology allows the team to have a unique insight into cutting edge research and development and thus provides possible manifestations of these capabilities throughout the NEW-GEN™ story.


Merrick Murdock comes to NEW-GEN with 25 years experience as an independent multi-media producer in brand market advertising. Merrick has served as associate creative director and producer on marketing and brand promotion campaigns for over 60 different regional, national and multi-national corporations and enterprises. Merrick’s work has been recognized with awards including Emmy, Cannes Lion, Clio, Telly and Mercury.

Merrick lends NEW-GEN her expertise in building brand awareness, tracking and monitoring trends to enhance the position of the NEW-GEN Franchise in today’s marketplace.
